SERMON TEXT

“A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son. O LORD, how many are my foes! Many are rising against me; many are saying of my soul, “There is no salvation for him in God.” Selah But you, O LORD, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head. I cried aloud to the LORD, and he answered me from his holy hill. Selah I lay down and slept; I woke again, for the LORD sustained me. I will not be afraid of many thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around. Arise, O LORD! Save me, O my God! For you strike all my enemies on the cheek; you break the teeth of the wicked. Salvation belongs to the LORD; your blessing be on your people! Selah” (Psalm 3:0–8 ESV)

In this entire Psalm we see David's example of how he dealt
with the significant trouble he was facing
and want to learn from his example
for our own days of trouble.

First Lesson (from 6/12): Speak to God of Your Trouble

Second Lesson: He Confessed the God Whom He Knows
“But you, O LORD, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head. I cried aloud to the LORD, and he answered me from his holy hill.” (Psalm 3:3–4 ESV)

  • He is a Sufficient God.
  • He is a Defending God.
  • He is a Restoring God.
  • He is an accessible God.

Third Lesson: He Enjoyed Peace Amid the Trouble
“I lay down and slept; I woke again, for the LORD sustained me. I will not be afraid of many thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around.” (Psalm 3:5–6 ESV)

Fourth Lesson: He Expects Help from God
“Arise, O LORD! Save me, O my God! For you strike all my enemies on the cheek; you break the teeth of the wicked. Salvation belongs to the LORD; your blessing be on your people!” (Psalm 3:7–8 ESV)

Application...

We are aware that many in this church family are going through significant difficulties. And we can come to believe that compared to others, our troubles aren’t as bad. Each of us have many foes; enemies that lie to us and declare falsehoods about the God we profess. Perhaps it’s a health issue, or a faith issue, or a relational issue. Each of us have foes that threaten to undo us. So… if you have believed on God and trusted in him, and you know him,...

  1. Pray and Wait

  2. Consider His Deliverance in the Past

  3. Consider His Deliverance at the Cross

  4. Pray for One Another
