Long Expected Jesus: Advent in Ruth

Out of one of the darkest times in the Bible springs unexpected hope as God directs his plans toward making and keeping promises to save his people. The book of Ruth may seem like the furthest thing from Christmas as it tells of Naomi's grief and emptiness. However, God quietly gives her a loyal daughter-in-law named Ruth along with a faithful redeemer named Boaz who don't simply reverse her circumstances— but whom God uses to make way for the family line of a king. The book of Ruth ends with King David, but the whole story points us to David's descendent who was born in a stable, the long-expected Jesus.
