A weekly follow-up of Sunday morning's message with links, scripture text, the main point, and thoughts regarding application.

This past Sunday I spoke of our Sovereign Grace Churches Shared Value of complementarian leadership in the home and the church. Striving to communicate the equal yet different beauty of the creation of man and woman I emphasized (heavily) the privilege and wonder of shining forth the image of God for the glory of God and our joy. However, I am fully cognizant that in emphasizing that aspect I limited the application of what it means to be complementarian in the church. In an effort to help us continue thinking through this highly important topic I thought it may be wise to point you to an article (and website) that will bring more specificity regarding biblical reasoning and application.

I wanted to take a few moments to throw out a quick reminder for each of us, at Sovereign Grace Church in Bellbrook, as we continue to engage people following the election. Whether you're engaging via the posting of Facebook articles, Facebook memes, tweets, online discussion forums (or commenting on other's Facebook posts), or conversation with neighbors, co-workers, and family I'm praying that each of us will walk in Christ-like humility and with a significant amount of grace towards ALL people. I urge you to be slow to speak right now, and take time to listen to, learn from and pray and care for others. Remember, fellow citizens of another country,...

Holly Sands had a wonderful post on the United in Christ Jesus website on June 1. I thought it had such specific connection and application to the sermon this past week that I wanted to encourage everyone to read it.

This past Sunday Steve preached on the Ascension of Christ. The glorious truth about Jesus being in heaven as my representative before the Father made me want to weep. The enormity of what Jesus had done, and is still doing for me, is so overwhelming. It can be easy to hear a sermon and then go on as usual afterwards without letting the impact of the word affect our lives. James calls this being a hearer of the word and exhorts us to also be doers.

The gospel is to inform and affect every single aspect of our lives as individuals and as a church...about sanctification, about doctrine, about the Holy Spirit, about relationships, about how we serve, about how we steward that which God gives us, about evangelism, and about our mission. But how does the gospel inform and affect the way we think and act every day about the church? In this sermon we see that the church is the object of God's love and the setting for His care.

As we know God accurately we grow to trust him fully and fulfill our purpose for living. What King David knows about God practically helps him trust in God. In Psalm 25:1 it is God whom he says he trusts. He knows that there is only hope in Him. It is God that must be trusted, not men. It is God whom we must desire and not another. It is God that holds our yesterday, today, and tomorrow in the palm of his hands, not fate or anything else. And with his life at the forefront of his mind, both his victories and his defeats, his joyful moments along with his moments of despair he looks to God and prays. And it is in his prayer, particularly, where we see the God whom he has grown to trust. Let us consider how we too can grow to know him accurately, trust him fully, and find our reason for existence (to glorify God and enjoy him forever).

Think about these questions personally (and as a couple if you're married); and if you're a parent ask your kids these questions and help them apply the message from Sunday.
